Description
VERY RARE Antique Victorian 3 Piece Gutta Percha Ladies Belt Buckle With Metal Hardware. On both metal bracket pieces the belt runs through is (PAT 108.905), I assume it is a patent number, though I'm not certain of the country of origin. The belt buckle was my great-great-great grandmothers who was from Germany. The Piece Measures Completely Together with its C latches: 5" long, by 2" high. The two outside pieces each measure 2" high, by 1-1/2" wide, the center piece is aprrox 1-3/4" in diameter. The buckle accommodates a 1-3/4" belt. I am not familiar enough with these buckles to venture what the pattern is, though appears possibly roses. It's colors are white to beige, with black and grays. In the 1970s my mother had used some type of bonding agent on the backs of the pieces, to arrest any splitting of the resins. The fronts are complete, and have NO cracks or apparent chipping. What I am quite certain of is its antiquity, because the heirloom has been in my family from the 1800's. I believe sometime during or before our Civil War. My photos are accurate of its condition, I did my best to show photos close up and clearly focused. Anyone interested in more photo's, or any addition information I could possibly offer, I'd be pleased to provide. My hope is they are quite collectable, and this piece highly sought after. It's just my unprofessional opinion, but I've always felt it looked as though it should be in a museum.Thank You,
Bruce
