    Description

UNUSUAL 1918 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY (SA) M1905 BAYONET W/ RARE BRAUER BROS SCABBARD.  The Springfield Armory manufactured the U. S. Model of 1905 bayonet with a 16" blade for the 1903 Springfield Rifle from 1905 through 1922, and those bayonets saw service in both WWI and WWII.  Not only were the M1905 SA bayonets very well made, they were also serially numbered.  This particular SA M1905 bayonet is serially numbered 1,143,497, and as shown by the photos it is in excellent condition.   The bayonet's left ricasso is stamped "S A/Flaming Bomb symbol/1918" and its right ricasso is stamped "U S/1143497".  The only change to the bayonet's original condition is its blade has been very lightly sharpened and most of the original Parkerized finish has been worn off the handle and guard.   Most SA bayonets made in 1918 were blued, but a few, like this one, were Parkerized.  What is really unusual (strange?) about this particular bayonet is it has a serial number that is well outside the range of 1918, and even 1919, SA bayonets, putting its serial number into the usual range of 1920 SA bayonets.   Also, as shown by the photos the bayonet comes with a rare
Army issue M1910 scabbard made by Brauer Bros. - see the last photo and the "BRAUER BROS/1918" stamping on the scabbard's leather tip.  These scabbards alone have sold in the hundreds of dollars.  If you have any questions, please ask before buying.  Thanks.
