Rare Minty Original M1905 Springfield 03 Bayonet & M1910 Scabbard—1920 Dated.
Offered is an original United States military issue Model of 1905 bayonet made for use with the Springfield Model 1903 rifle. This bayonet was manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1920 and is so marked, along with the flaming bomb inspection proof. It is correctly US marked and bears its serial number on the obverse side of the blade near the guard. The bayonet has its original, damage free wood grips and the lock mechanism functions just as it should. The blade is arrow-straight, retains its factory edge, and has no nicks or dings. It retains all but a slight bit bit of its phosphate finish (with the blued strip at the base of the blade). It is offered with its virtually mint original M1910 scabbard (extremely difficult to find in its own right). A close friend (who has probably bought and sold more of these than most people will ever see) believes it was likely a USMC rig but isn’t certain given the double stitching line on the leather tip of the scabbard cover. This has been in my collection for years and is absolutely the best I’ve had the privilege to own. I know there are better out there, but most of us won’t be fortunate enough to find one, as they don’t pop their heads up very often. If you have a minty original 03, then this would be an exceedingly difficult to upgrade rig to pair it with.
