    Description

    Welcome to
    Antiques & Moore!
This listing is for a beautiful antique Mourning Jewelry hair brooch, c. 1870's.
This stunning brooch is one of the largest "mourning" brooches we have seen and the elaborate delicate hair work is fabulous.  There are three large hair "feathers" with a gold interwoven thread embellishing the design.
Measures 2 5/8" high and 2 1/4" wide (including mounting) and 1 7/8" high and 1 1/8" wide (glass area only).
We believe the mounting to be "pinchbeck" with the engraved leaves attached to the mounting being a low grade gold, probably 9K as the brooch is most likely English.  Nice period clasp and condition is near perfect commemorate with age, c.1870.
"Pinchbeck" derived its name after an 18th Century watchmaker named Pinchbeck developed an alloy that had the look of gold.
This is a stunning piece of antique Mourning jewelry, quaranteed to please!
