DVH 6g Genuine Whitby Jet Mourning Bead Pendant 31x22x14 (3679)

Description

I hand cut this contemporary, polished jet focal bead using genuine jet that was collected on the beaches of Whitby, England.  I leave one part of the bead with the natural surface to show the features of the Whitby jet as it is found.  The measurements are shown in the listing title and the bead has a 2.5mm side drill hole.  It has a high polished finish all around.
I get my rough from two suppliers who live there and have much experience with this material.
Some of the material may show a crazing pattern in the polished surface.  There are no "mines" for the Whitby material and the only source is the various grades found on the beaches.

I work in a variety of natural jet from around the world but most of it is from Russia, Tennessee, or Whitby, England. The material from Whitby is world renowned as the blackest, hardest, and shiniest of all jet varieties.  Jet is a kind of gem grade lignite coal that has been used in beads, jewelry, carvings and ornament for over 15,000 years. It's a true fossil fuel jewel.  Jet reached its greatest popularity during Victorian times as traditional mourning jewelry.  For this reason it is still associated metaphysically with alleviating grief and depression.
